WHAT:

The Sport-It Girl Initiative targets 40 middle school girls who are involved in GITG and provides indepth mentoring and programming focused on sports, leadership, health and community service.  Swin developed the Sport-It Girl Initiative as a way to honor the 40th Anniversary of Title IX.

Swin Cash had a vision to develop a mentoring program for middle-school aged girls. In order to recognize the impact that Title IX has had on her life, she chose to create Sport-It Girl as a program that would honor the 40th Anniversary of Title IX by partnering with Girls in the Game to identify and work with 40 girls from the Chicago Public Schools. She specifically wanted girls who showed leadership promise and who illustrated a commitment to give back. In other words, she wanted to identify girls who reminded her of herself at that age. Then she envisions providing long-term mentoring of and programming specifically for these girls. The Sport-It Girl Initiative will also include a social media component to allow her regular interaction with the girls in a substantial way.

Swin selected Girls in the Game to partner with her on Sport-It Girl because they are an established charity with a comparable mission in Chicagoland.

Additionally, Swin intends to assist Girls in the Game with their strategic plans of expansion by developing Sport-It Girl in the Pittsburgh area in partnership with YouthPlaces.
